Muddy York Porter

Diving Horse Pale Ale

At Hanlan’s Point, in 1907, J.W. Gorman’s horses entertained spectators by diving into the lake from a high platform. Named after these spirited horses, Diving Horse Pale Ale sports a unique blend of 4 hops; Nelson Sauvin, Simcoe, Cascade and Chinook, to bring you a good hop kick, imparting notes of white grape, grapefruit and pine.

Major Small Best Bitter

Stork Derby Stout

Millionaire lawyer and eccentric Charles Vance Millar left $500,000 to the Toronto mother who produced the largest brood in the ten years following his death in 1926. This was dubbed ‘The Great Toronto Stork Derby’. Conversely, Stork Derby Stouts’ huge roasted flavour is not strange or controversial, just exactly what you would expect from Muddy York Brewing Co.

R-100 I.P.A.

Storm Glass I.P.A.

Admiral FitzRoy, the captain of Darwin’s HMS Beagle, invented the storm glass barometer; an instrument that predicts weather conditions by responding to atmospheric fluctuations. This cloudy I.P.A. won’t forecast weather, but it will navigate your taste buds towards the tropical flavours of Equinox and Amarillo hops.

Plank Road Baltic Porter

This baltic porter is a stronger, more refined version of a porter that comes in at 8.8%. We’ve lagered this beer for over 2 months at just above freezing to produce a very smooth and mellow character despite it’s higher ABV. It has a silky, full body with plenty of malt character. This character is complimented by a noticeable vinous quality with notes of cocoa and sweet coffee, finishing with a pleasant alcohol warmth.

Dereliction Double I.P.A.

If you were poor or desperate in 18th century York, there was a good chance you would end up living in ‘The Ward’, one of the settlements most notorious slums. After many years of dereliction and neglect, the area would later become the building ground for Toronto’s city hall and financial district. This beer has massive aromatics, complex hop flavor and an incredibly smooth bitterness which makes this a double I.P.A. like no other.

Roller Boat I.P.A.

A young inventor named Frederick Knapp launched his ‘Roller Boat’ in 1897, a cylindrical vessel built to revolutionize water travel. Unlike Knapp’s failed tub – which to this day remains buried under Toronto’s waterfront – our Roller Boat I.P.A. will take you for a ride into the citrusy world of beautiful west coast hops. This beer doesn’t fail to bring you the flavour and aroma you’d expect in an I.P.A.

Brick Maker Common

The California Common style is brewed with a special strain of lager yeast that ferments at ale temperatures. This lager yeast provides a beautiful array of fruity esters in the aroma and is balanced with woody and sometimes minty flavours that come from Northern Brewer hops. In the late 19th century brickyards were one of the main sources of employment in the east end of the city. The men and women who toiled in these brickyards provided the bricks to build the houses that some of us live in today!

Commonwealth Series: Buck 10 Imperial Amber

Buck 10 is a recipe Jeremy Coghill, the owner of Lansdowne Brewery, came up with as a sort of tongue-in-cheek beer style that doesn’t really exist, mostly as a reaction to the imperialization of all beers. It’s an old-school craft beer with a significant amount of bittering hops and late addition hops for flavour and aroma. The bittering hops help to balance the sweetness of the beer and create a unique, well-balanced, clean taste.

Commonwealth Series: Muddy Beagle Extra Special Bitter

Muddy Beagle is a recipe developed by David Green who is part of GTA Brews homebrew club and proud owner of a beagle named Ralph. After moving to Canada from England he found that he missed some of the traditional beers that he used to get back home, so he decided to look into brewing some himself. After submitting his E.S.B. to The Peoples Pint event, we offered David a chance to brew his stellar ESB at Muddy York Brewing and hence Muddy Beagle was born.

Commonwealth Series: The Borough American Pale Ale

This recipe was developed by Richard Zimmerman, Co-Owner of The Borough a British gastropub. The Borough prides itself on working close with members of the community to bring great local ingredients and products to their restaurant. Sometimes great products stem from a perfect collaboration between neighbours! This pale ale combines the backbone of an old world beer with the flavours and aromas of new world hops. Cheers to the East End!

Barrel Aged Series Batch #96 – Inkwell Imperial Stout

Inkwell Imperial Stout was brewed as part of our Commonwealth Series earlier this year with friend and brewer, Richard Sigesmund. It’s a delicious combination of Pale Malt, Flaked Oats, Chocolate Wheat, Medium Crystal, Roasted Barley, Special B and Oak Smoked Wheat malt paired with Columbus hops. This lavish beer has notes of Scotch Whisky, a velvety mouth-feel with a big, roasty, tobacco finish. Aged for 117 days in a Macallan Whisky Barrel.

This barrel-aged Muddy York Porter is our debut recipe brewed with a combination of UK Pearl, Pale Wheat, Chocolate Wheat, Brown, Medium Crystal and 100% Ontario grown Willamette hops from VQH Farms. It has notes of dark chocolate, oak, vanilla & Scotch Whisky with a soft mouth-feel. Aged for 109 days in a Macallan Whisky Barrel.
