The Five “P” Sandwich Pop-Up

When he’s not catering his superb Spanish and Mediterranean specialties around town, Chef Arato of Pimentón is often seen selling his local, seasonal dishes at the Evergreen Brickworks' Saturday Farmers Market. We’re super excited that he'll be bringing a fantastic sandwich creation right to the brewery this Saturday, Nov. 25th from 1-4pm. The scrumptious "Five P Sandwich" features Muddy York Porter-braised pulled pork, slow-cooked for six hours and served on a homemade brioche bun. The vegetarian option will be a “Pisto” sandwich. Pisto is a Spanish dish, similar to ratatouille, made with eggplants, zucchinis, peppers, tomato sauce, and pickled onions. So join us at the brewery for a pint and bring your appetite.

Rollin’, Rollin’, Trick or Treatin’

You’ll never guess what just rolled back into your life. You don’t need to guess because I’m about to tell you. Roller Boat IPA is cold and waiting for you in the bottle shop and on tap in the taproom. We didn’t make a big deal about it, but, humble-brag time, last spring, we won an Ontario Brewing Award for this West-Coast style IPA. At 6.5% ABV and 60 IBU, it’s the perfect dank, piney, citrusy brew to get your weekend started. It also tastes great Mondays through Thursdays, so make sure you’ve got enough.

If you need more reasons to rush over here, starting today, just in time for Halloween, you can pair a 12oz pour of our Muddy York Porter with a handmade dark chocolate peanut butter cup. Made from 100% imported Belgian chocolate, these little sweeties will indulge your adult trick-or-treat cravings, and they really bring out the chocolate notes of the Porter. The cost is $8. While supplies last. Or we eat them all.

Cheers,
Muddy York Brewing Co.

Plank Road Baltic Porter

Salutations craft beer lovers!

We are very excited for our special event this week to celebrate our 2nd year anniversary, as well as the release of a new beer. On Thursday, February 9th from 6pm-2am, Muddy York will be taking over 9 taps at Lake Inez, a recently opened restaurant and bar at 1471 Gerrard St. E. in Toronto. We really hope you can join us!

To mark the occasion, we concocted a new brew called Plank Road Baltic Porter. This is a stronger, more refined version of a porter that comes in at 8.8%. We’ve lagered this beer for over 2 months at just above freezing, to produce a very smooth and mellow character despite it’s higher ABV. It has a silky, full body with plenty of malt character. This character is complimented by a noticeable vinous quality with notes of cocoa and sweet coffee, finishing with a pleasant alcohol warmth. Taste this new beauty at Lake Inez first!

Now, a little background on plank roads in our fine city. Plank roads were once dirt and mud paths that were covered with wooden planks. Built for wagons, it was a great improvement in transportation, often built by turnpike companies (i.e., first examples of toll roads!!!) The Don and Danforth Plank Road Company built Danforth Ave in 1851, connecting it to Broadview Ave and creating a viable route to surrounding communities.

Hoping to see you all soon!

Now Available: Two Barrel Aged Seasonal Beers

After many months of waiting, we released a pair of barrel aged beers: Batch #96 Inkwell Imperial Stout and Batch #105 Muddy York Porter. They will be sold through Muddy York Brewing’s retail bottle shop and select bars and restaurants.

Barrel Aged Series Batch #96 - Inkwell Imperial Stout was brewed as part of our Commonwealth Series earlier this year with friend and brewer, Richard Sigesmund. It’s a delicious combination of Pale Malt, Flaked Oats, Chocolate Wheat, Medium Crystal, Roasted Barley, Special B and Oak Smoked Wheat malt paired with Columbus hops. This lavish beer has notes of Scotch Whisky, a velvety mouth-feel with a big, roasty, tobacco finish. Aged for 117 days in a Macallan Whisky Barrel. ABV: 7.7% and IBUs: 99

Barrel Aged Series Batch #105 - Muddy York Porter is our debut recipe brewed with a combination of UK Pearl, Pale Wheat, Chocolate Wheat, Brown, Medium Crystal and 100% Ontario grown Willamette hops from VQH Farms. It has notes of dark chocolate, oak, vanilla & Scotch Whisky with a soft mouth-feel. Aged for 109 days in a Macallan Whisky Barrel. ABV: 5% and IBUs: 21

“What’s exciting for me about launching our barrel-aged series is the opportunity to learn and explore the possibilities of marrying our beers with the unique characteristics that you can get from barrels,” says Jeff Manol, founder and head brewer of Muddy York Brewing Co. “Our goal with each release is to showcase the complexity and smoothness brought out by each individual barrel. It also allows us to channel our creativity and passion into these special releases and learn about the process as we go. These two Macallan barrel aged sippers are as refined as any wine or spirit, and we think it’s a shame that beer doesn’t always share the same image of sophistication, although that is thankfully changing.”

Count-Down to Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day, eh!

First off, we at Muddy York Brewing Co. are really proud to be Canadian, it's truly the greatest country on earth, in our humble opinion! We are also super proud to be your independent, local brewery. It was only one short year ago, on Canada Day, that we hosted our first pop-up retail bottle-shop. As we've grown, we can now serve you on a full-time basis and we'll be open for Canada Day again!

Canada Day Weekend Hours:
Thursday June 30th - 11am - 7pm
Friday July 1st - 11am - 4pm
Saturday July 2nd - closed
Sunday July 3rd - closed

What will we have on offer? I know many of you have been asking for the return of our Muddy York Porter. We've heard you, and we'll have some bottled up! Also returning to the retail store is our Ward 3: Chinook Pale Ale. This is a single malt, single hop Pale Ale with 100% Canadian barley malt and 100% Ontario grown Chinook hops from VQH Farms. If that isn't Canada Day in a glass, I don't know what is. Along with those two exciting beers, we'll have our customer favourite Gaslight Helles and always refreshing Haberdasher Hefeweizen.

Cheers and have an excellent weekend!

From all of us at Muddy York Brewing Co.

P.S.
We also want to wish everyone a safe and fun-filled Pride Weekend. #loveislove

The Beer is Almost Here

After a not-so-long summer that has come and gone, we've been left wondering, "what the heck happened?" I know it flew by for us.

During the course of the last month or so I've been breaking in my system. Ironing out the kinks and pushing it in a calculated way to see what kind of beer this little brewhouse of ours is going to produce. Well, if I may say so myself, damn good beer (to borrow a phrase from our friends at Amsterdam). Calibrating the efficiencies, adjusting hop additions, practicing transfers and dialing in the flow of a typical brew day has been fun but not without it's share of outrageous mishaps. I've learned to regard rubber boots, safety glasses and heat resistant gloves as my best friends. Having worked through this testing phase, I'm feeling confident that I'll be able to deliver the kind of beer I've always wanted Muddy York Brewing Co. to bring to the table.

Our good friends and colleagues at some local breweries have been kind enough to supply us with some very healthy yeast, a critical component in making great beer, and for that I am truly grateful. I'm always inspired by the generosity of the brewing community, homebrewing and now professional, and how people are always willing to help out and offer advice to one another. It's these people and this attitude that really makes this community a very special one. I hope to continue paying it forward as others have done for me.

So ready your pint glasses beer lovers, the beer is almost here.

Cheers!

Jeff
